South Carolina highway patrol has been around since 1930 and has been upholding the laws of the constitutions in order to provide a safe and secure environment for the public.  In 1930 when the SC highway patrol started, they only had 69 employees. As of today, over 900 troopers are patrolling over 64,750 miles of highway.  The accomplishments of the SC highway patrol unfortunately have not come without sacrifice.  Within the past 80 years, they have lost 49 troopers who have committed their lives to the safety of the citizens and county.  In honor of the memory of those they have lost, South Carolina highway patrol has an “In Memory Of” page on their website that shows names, pictures, and a little about who they were.  For more information on becoming a part of South Carolina highway patrol or to learn more about the rules and regulations of the highway, visit their website at www.scdps.gov/schp

In addition to keeping the highways safe, the South Carolina highway patrol has partnered with the Hazel Pittman Center and have created the ECHO DUI Task Force for Chester County and surrounding areas.  ECHO stands for Empowering Communities for Healthy Outcomes and was started in January 2016.  The focus is to address prevention issues related to impaired driving for youth ages 12-25.   ECHO’s mission is to reduce and prevent impaired driving but their vision is to have a county free of impaired driving.  More information on ECHO DUI Task Force can be found on their website www.HazelPitman.org
