Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Parade of Power

When: August 16, 2017

Time: 12noon to 2pm

Where: Charlotte Motor Speedway - 5555 Concord Pkwy S Concord, NC

NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne and NHRA Pro Stock driver Tanner Gray will wave the green flag on the speedway’s action-packed fall Season of Speed during the ninth annual Parade of Power on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Vehicles representing those that will compete this fall at Charlotte Motor Speedway will parade down Bruton Smith Boulevard, from Concord Mills Mall to the speedway’s Avenue of Flags. The FREE fan event will include a driver Q&A session, free monster truck rides for kids, special ticket offers and more. The first 100 fans to pick up a wristband beginning at 8 a.m. on event day will receive autographs from Kahne, Gray and other motorsports personalities. The parade will feature more than two dozen vehicles, including race cars, pace cars, a monster truck, luxury automobiles and more. The parade will begin at noon with the Q&A and autograph session to follow.

Plaza Patio Party – Kids Day

When: August 17, 2017

Where: Healthy Home Market – Plaza - 1330 Central Avenue Charlotte, NC

Thursday, Aug.17th, bring your kids to Healthy Home Market in Plaza Midwood for our Kid's Day Plaza Patio Party. There will be live music, games, coloring contest and prizes for the kids! We will also have a $5 Grill Special and you can meet Happy the Cow from Horizon Organic!! You do not want to miss out!

Fun Fitness Event – Community Speaks Series

When: August 17, 2017

Time: 6pm to 8pm

Where: Leon Levine Opportunity Center – 5301 Wilkinson Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28208

Participant in a fun event we call Community Speaks! We will review our fitness goals for 2017 with fitness and healthy eating experts. The panel of 4 experts  will get the audience motivated after refreshment from 6p to 6:30pm, then the conversation begins!

Science on the Rocks: Carnival After Dark

When: August 18, 2017

Time: 5:00pm-9:00pm

Where: Discovery Place - 301 N Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28202

Adults can step right up and explore the science of the unbelievable in the exhibition The

Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Discover daring feats and witness weird talents like sword

swallowing, try your hand at favorite carnival games and win prizes at our ticket booth, or sip

on an adult cotton candy cocktail. $10 in advance, and this event is designed for ages 21 and up.

AfroPop -  The Block Party

When: August 18, 2017

Time: 6pm to 11pm

Where: Camp North End - 1776 Statesville Ave Charlotte, NC

Great summer event for ages 21 and up, and time for the first annual BLOCK PARTY! It'll be at Camp North End, Charlotte's best kept secret. This free event allows you to experience (4) DJ's on deck for the evening- DJ Swan Mhz (Opening - 7p), Marcus Wade of RELEASE (7p -8p), DJ Steel Wheel (8p - 9:30p). See you soon!

Earth, Wind & Fire & Chic

When: August 18, 2017

Time 8pm

Where: Spectrum Center – Charlotte, NC

Two of the most successful and critically-acclaimed bands Earth, Wind & Fire and CHIC ft. Nile Rodgers present 2054 tour, August 18 at the Spectrum center, formerly Time Warner Cable Arena. 2054 The Tour will feature a special guest DJ and a specialized seating configuration toward the front of the stage where seats will have additional space between them to encourage audiences to dance the night away.

School Supply Bash

When: August 19, 2017

Time: 9am to 1pm

Where: Harding University  - 2001 Alleghany St, Charlotte, NC 28208

Come support this school supply drive at Harding University on August 19, 2017 from 9am to 1pm. All generous donations will go to the students at Harding University. Please drop off donations at the front of the main entrance. Items needed are backpacks, pens, highlighters, sharpies, index cards, loose leaf paper, post it notes and other items to make a student’s school year a success.

Family & Friends Cookout

When: August 19, 2017

Time: 11am

Where: Little Rock AME Zion Church

Come out with family and friends to attend a free community cookout. This event is followed by a Sunday worship service on August 20, 2017 at 10am.

Jazz Under the Stars Ft. Jeanette Harris

When: August 20, 2017

Time 6pm to 9pm

Where: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 south new hope road Belmont NC  

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden continues its Jazz Under the Stars series. Enjoy strolling the grounds of the garden then enjoy a great concert with the scintillating saxtress of smooth jazz, Jeanette Harris! This event is not free, this group is charging $40 to enter.


Next Step African-American Dance Showcase

When: Aug. 26, 2017

Time 5pm to 7pm

Where: Gorelick Hall 5007 Providence Rd Charlotte, NC  

Please join Next Step African-American Dance Showcase for a celebration of culture as we feature exhibitions in dance. Groups across the Charlotte area will highlight African American dance styles like hip hop, breakdancing, and stepping. We will also be treated to native cultural dances from east to west Africa.


Mathew Whitaker

Charlotte North Carolina will experience the presence of sixteen-year old prodigy, Matthew Whitaker, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 7pm. Tickets are $20 and available online:  and just click on  events. Hammond USA as the company celebrated its 80 plus year anniversary; and at 15, Whitaker became again, the youngest endorsed "Yamaha Piano Artist" which makes him the youngest musician to join the stellar group of jazz pianists.

Matthews Alive Festival

dedicated to support local non-profit organizations. Admission is FREE for the Festival.

East Side Block Music Festival

When: September 2, 2017

Time: 12pm to 5pm

Where: Albemarle Road Recreation Center - 5027 Idlewild Road, N Charlotte, NC

The Inaugural East Side Block Music Festival on Charlotte's lower East Side. The festival is an outdoor event being held on the grounds of the Albemarle Road Recreation Center (baseball field). This uplifting event includes entertainment featuring local talent, food & merchandise vendors, health fair, kids' zone, exhibitors & more! The Festival is being sponsored by the Arts and Science Council in partnership with the Mecklenburg Park & Recreation and produced / organized by Dapper Street Productions for the Arts. Bring your lawn chairs, bring the family and come out and celebrate with the East Side Community.
