Today the 44th President, Barack Obama, will take his final trip on Air Force One to his old stomping grounds of Chicago and deliver his final goodbye speech (cue uncontrollable sobbing).  First Lady Michelle Obama, VP Joe Biden, and his wife Jill Biden, will travel along on a trip that began almost in the same place eight years ago, when President Obama accepted his presidency.

Many will brave the frigid temperatures to hear from the nations first African American president.  Tickets were complimentary for the event, but have since appeared on Craigslist for upwards of $1,000.  Supporters flocking to the event won’t hear a rebuke of incoming President Elect Donald Trump, no President Obama wants to focus his speech on the path this country can still forge.   A speech that includes equality and justice for all ( I mean it’s in the Pledge of Allegiance).  The irony of it all is Barack Obama ran on the platform of Hope and now, in his final speech, he will turn that duty of Hope over to the American people.

President Obama leaves the office of President with a 55% approval rating and unemployment at it’s lowest since 2007 at 4.7 percent.  Hourly pay  has risen 2.9% and many states voted to raise the minimum wage. An Affordable Healthcare plan was put into place so anyone no matter pre existing condition had access, and equal rights for the LGBTQ community.

This year America has had to take a long hard look in the mirror at itself, deciding what is her real identity. The presidential race brought out the ugly in our nation and nations we believed were allies.  The Democratic party has taken a severe hit, but it’s not about how hard you get hit, it’s about how you get back up.  The next four years will be unpredictable and all I can say is President Elect Trump the throne is yours!

President Obama, I’m going to miss the hell out of you.  This country is better because you had the courage to lead it with God in your heart and justice on your mind. You were the peoples president, and because of you I’m trying my best not to be quick to judge our incoming president.  I will give him a chance and let him show the world who he is, hopefully someone worthy of this great nation.  Thank you for blessing our country.  Let’s take a look back at happier times. Here are some of my favorite President Barack Obama pictures.
